Soft white sand, Monterey cypress trees, and Pacific sunsets. The entire downtown is dog-friendly: shops, galleries, and patios welcome leashed dogs. Approximately 2 hours south of San Francisco via Highway 1 or 101.

Dogs may be off-leash on Carmel Beach year-round under voice control per City of Carmel-by-the-Sea municipal policy. Voice control means the dog reliably responds to verbal commands. Downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea: dogs must be on a leash on sidewalks and in city streets — the off-leash allowance applies to the beach itself.
