Use vet-recommended tick prevention before visiting, check your dog thoroughly immediately after the visit, and shower the dog within 2 hours of returning home.

Can my dog swim at Point Reyes beaches?

Use caution. Water temperature is very cold year-round (50–55°F), and rip currents are present especially at Limantour. Dogs can develop hypothermia quickly. Salt water can upset a dog's stomach. Supervised wading is acceptable, but extended swimming in the cold surf is not ideal. Rinse your dog with fresh water after any beach visit.
